The
New Image Quilters recently pieced and hand quilted a quilted wall
hanging for the Women's Coalition of St. Croix. The quilt depicts
work undertaken by the Women's Coalition. Some of the events
pictured on the quilt include the tennis tournament, the annual Women
Race, the Art Auction, Take Back the Night, and the Golf Tournament. The
quilters who participated designed then pieced their blocks. The
quilt was then passed to various quilters for the hand quilting.
All of the quilt blocks are original designs except for the group of
women which was a pattern by Lynn Harkin entitled The Ladies Club.
The quilt took six months to complete and was organized by Karen
Zimmerman. The
New Image Quilters was founded in 1979 by Judy Pierce. The 20 or
so women meet weekly to work on their own quilts or on group quilting
projects. The group has made quilts for Whim Greathouse, the Queen
Louise Home, The St. Croix Aquarium and the Animal Shelter. The
quilters whose handiwork can be seen on the WCSC quilt include:
Karen Zimmerman, Meg Tweed, Yvonne Bakker, Glendeen McNamara, Carolyn
Roblyer, Bethanne Cousins, Annie Johnston, Carole Hendley, Carole
Griffin, Lynn Marsland, Phyllis Charles and Ruth Thomas. A
huge thank you from the Women's Coalition to all of you quilters.
