Erase-isms

Helping achieve a greater racial cross-cultural understanding in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Imagine a community filled with respect for each other, living in harmony, valuing each other's uniqueness and working together.

What is Erase-isms?

Erase-isms is a multiracial group of local men and women sharing the common vision to erase from our community the "isms" identified in the umbrella of oppression. The "isms" that hurt and separate people in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Together with the Women's Coalition of St. Croix, we have united to eradicate injustice and discrimination through education and awareness.

Denial of Power

Some suggest that there is a core "ism," and all others are less important. While that may be, in this model of oppression there is no hierarchy of "isms." If you suffer from one -- you suffer -- not greater nor less. Remove one -- and the others will remain. Through our workshops we hope to disassemble, piece by piece, the "isms" that exist in our community.

  • Develop relationships with people of other races
  • Value Differences by attending events of another culture
  • Take time to reflect on your own biases and stereotypes
